Established in 1976, Sonangol, EP – Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola, a public company – is a company involved in the exploration of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons in the subsoil and continental shelf of Angola. Its activities, carried out autonomously or in partnership with national and foreign companies, encompass the prospecting, research, development, production, storage, marketing, transportation, and refining of hydrocarbons and their derivatives.

THE PRINCIPLE

Crude oil exploration in Angola dates back to 1953. After independence, and to undertake the mission of managing this extraordinary wealth in order to transform it into a factor of development for the Angolan people, Sonangol was created following the nationalization of Angol. This company was based on a modern market economy that, with efficiency and competitiveness, could convert the resources obtained through the full performance of its activities into new development opportunities.
